If you want castles, we’ve got castles in abundance. There are more castles in Northumberland than any other county.
Castles have a history going way back, The word castle has become a generic term used to describe many types of fortification, and there are many structures that pre-date the Middle Ages that are often referred to as castles. There are stone age ’castles’ here, but most are more modern.

We’ll get busy improving this page and add some more - such as Lindisfarne Castle; Warkworth Castle; Chillingham Castle; Alnwick Castle; Eglingham, and more.

Here are some castles we’ve listed as a sort of Castle Trail - see if you can get to see them all.

Bamburgh Castle.
This is the one that gets all the pictures.

Dunstanburgh Castle.
Now, I think this is real drama. outlined against the sky and rock, you can weave tales around these ruins.
Or - just enjoy the setting and the stroll.
