Coast

We’re right alongside the Northumberland Heritage Coast.
Take a camera as you go along the coast, for every turn reveals another outstanding view, whether the weather be clear and sunny, or dramatically cloudy, or even with storms at sea.

Visit Craster, where kippers are still smoked at Robson’s, or explore Seahouses, with its ancient harbour, and RNLI station. Looking out to sea the Farne Islands are home to thousands of seabirds, which you can visit by taking one of the boats from Seahouses harbour around the island and perhaps to the site of Grace Darling’s Longstone Lighthouse, from whence she made the dramatic rescue which made her a celebrity. Visit the Grace Darling museum when you are in Bamburgh.

Visiting the Farnes?

There are lots of boatmen who take trips out to the Farne Islands. Some have permission to land and visit the lighthouse ( keys needed!) which provide an excellent view from the top. In Grace Darling’s day of course, rowing boats were the way, so its a luxury to be chauffeured there in a motor boat with commentary.

St. Oswald’s Way.

If you want a walk with history, breathtaking seascapes, and stunning seabirds, then walk some or all of the St Oswald’s way.
There’s a whole website here. www.stoswaldsway.com.
Number One is around 2/3 of the way (travelling Northwards)
