Things to Do

There’s never, ever, a lack of things to do in Northumberland, and Number One is cleverly positioned to give you the widest choice possible.
Maybe you want to check on castles - We’ve got the best in the country, here are some details.
Dunstanburgh Castle, Bamburgh Castle, Lindisfarne Castle, Perhaps you want to buy some second hand books - Barter Books are here in Alnwick - the New Statesman called them “The British Library of second hand books”
For the fisherfolk, Hardy’s make the finest reels and rods and have their headquarters and a fascinating museum in Alnwick.
Gardeners will already know about the Alnwick Garden. Well,it’s just 4 miles up the road, if you can tear yourself away from our collection of hostas!
Perhaps an older, established estate, at Rothbury is Cragside, once the home of the industrialist Lord Armstrong, now in the care of the National Trust? Or the incomparable art of the Lindisfarne Gospels.
Needing exercise after that breakfast ? A mile down the road is the magnificence of the Heritage coast. Drive the mile to Boulmer village or drive or walk a different mile to the almost private white sands of Howdiemont Sands with a picnic basket ( we provide a packed lunch in a basket on request ) and enjoy the sand and sea. Only a couple of miles up the coast is Seahouses, then Bamburgh, with its much photographed castle and choice of pubs and restaurants.. If you want to visit Holy Island, You will need the tide times.
Maybe some Golf - here’s a list of Northumberland courses
